Homemade Cinnamon Spiced Apple Cider

Smells of cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and apples are in the air!!! It must be December. This homemade apple cider not only fills your home with Christmas, but cooking apples with their skins and fresh spices boosts the nutritional value of all the ingredients in this delicious cider.

Homemade Cinnamon Spiced Apple Cider
Makes 12 servings

Ingredients:
10 large apples (5 Gala and 5 Honeycrisp)
16 cups of water
3/4 cups of sugar
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 teaspoon whole cloves
6 cinnamon sticks

Instructions:

  1. Quarter each apple and remove the core. Place apple slices in a large stockpot or slow cooker and add water.
  2. Stir in sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and cinnamon sticks. Either bring to a simmer over medium heat, then cover the pot with a lid and continue simmering for 2 hours or set your slow cooker.
  3. After cooking, stir well, then carefully strain the apple mixture through a fine-mesh sieve. Discard solids from the sieve. Line the sieve with cheesecloth and strain the cider again.
  4. Serve warm.
