Whole grains contain the germ of the grain where the good oils are stored. If kept too long at room temperature or not used often they will go rancid. Other freezer items should be reserves for foods when fresh is not available or frozen is preferred in a recipe.
- Extra whole grain breads
- Whole grain pancake and muffin mix
- Meat, poultry and fish
- Favorite fruits and vegetables (when fresh is not an option)
- Chopped spinach, peas, butternut squash, broccoli/cauliflower (for fast healthy meals)
- Spare nuts and seeds in packages
- Wheat germ
