My slow realization
When you come down to it, if you have every other resource in the world and don’t have health, what do you have? The good news is that you don’t have to have a PhD in nutrition, exercise science or psychology to be healthy. You just have to use common sense — something we seem to have forgotten as a nation.
How do I know this? I know this from gaining 20 extra pounds myself after age 50 and having my blood pressure and blood cholesterol go up with the pounds. After living 11 years in a developing nation as a missionary, purchasing and cooking whole local foods and walking a lot every day of those 11 years, I came back to the processed, fast-food mecca of the world, America — and drove every mile of every day. The extra pounds didn’t take long to creep up, and after menopause, those pounds located in places they had not settled before.
We have the answer
Over the last 17 years, I have come to the slow realization that as a Christian, I have had the answer all along, but didn’t recognize it. It was so simple I almost missed it. God did not put us here without a guidebook. As I read my Bible to see what God Himself had said about health and wellness, I began to see that He had provided all we need to know about it, because that was His original intention.
We can see what God intended in the way He created the world, and in the story of the Garden of Eden. When He made us, He had already made a world for us to live in that would regulate our metabolism by the sun and provide just the right foods for our bodies to function as they should.
He gave us physical work to do. He provided a day of rest. That’s all we need to know. When I started living by these principles, I lost the weight, I rebuilt muscle, my cholesterol and blood pressure went back down, and I was in the best shape of my life — after 50!
That’s why I ask you to go back to Creation’s garden with me, back to the paradise of common sense about eating, physical activity, and rest.
As a helpful resource, I have lots of articles on healthy ingredients and recipes that you can implement into your daily life.
